Last we heard, rumors were suggesting that Captain Marvel would begin filming in early 2018. Now it seems those rumors were fairly accurate. Sources are reporting that Captain Marvel will officially start production January 8, 2018, which makes sense given its scheduled March 8, 2019 release date. The news also says filming will take place in Atlanta like Avengers: Infinity War.
News about Captain Marvel has been a slow burn ever since the film was first announced. With the revelation of the production date, more information about the film will hopefully follow close behind. However, there are a few things that seem likely to be included in the film: fighter jets, outer space, and all-out brawls. It will most likely be a large-scale film with plenty of special effects. In other words, another Marvel Cinematic Universe special.
Also of note is the fact that Captain Marvel will be Marvel Studios first female-led superhero flick, and Brie Larson, who will be playing Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers recently spoke about Captain Marvel portraying a different type of female hero.
The site that first tagged a date to production, My Entertainment World, also included a blurb about the film’s story, but the information seems more like a comic bio for the character than a true film synopsis. So take it with a grain of salt. Still, you can check it out for yourself below.
After encountering the Kree hero Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers was accidentally subjected to otherworldly radiation that transformed her into a superhuman warrior. Calling herself Ms. Marvel, she established herself as one of Marvel’s most powerful and prominent heroes both as a solo heroine and as a member of the Avengers. Recently, she has adopted the mantle of Captain Marvel for herself.
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as the titular hero and will be written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauvis. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
