While it seems like everyone in the world will apparently be guessing who Jude Law is playing in Captain Marvel, we at least have some clarification about another character in the upcoming film. Possibly another character, anyway. And we owe it all to the solution to all of life’s problems: toys.
But don’t take my word for it. This comes courtesy of Jeremy Conrad over at MCU Cosmic, who reported earlier today that he made a Captain Marvel-sized discovery while at Walmart. While looking at the Marvel Legends Captain Marvel figures, Conrad examined the Yon-Rogg figure. Nothing out of the ordinary there, but the description for the figure reads as follows:
“Leader of the Starforce team, Yon-Rogg is a hero among the Kree and a key asset to the Supreme Intelligence in the war against the Skrulls.”
While some hinted- and Disney’s own site even briefly showcased on their own website- that Jude Law would be playing Mar-Vell in the film, it’s possible that he may instead be playing Yon-Rogg. Perhaps this is the film’s way of avoiding spoilers or to throw off people still believing that Law will be playing Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel. But right now, the Yon-Rogg figure matches prior descriptions of Law’s character in Captain Marvel. Ultimately, though, do you think that Law is playing Mar-Vell? Yon-Rogg? An original character altogether?
Or maybe he’s just playing Jude Law. Stranger things have happened, after all. And toy descriptions and merchandise often do hint at or give away key details of films, if the merchandising for Spider-Man: Far From Home was any indication. Nonetheless, let us know your thoughts on this toy reveal and expectations for Captain Marvel in the comments below.
“Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers. She’s left her earthly life behind to join an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law’s enigmatic commander. But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
The film will fly into theaters on March 8, 2019.
