In a bit of tragic news, the co-creator of Judge Dredd, Carlos Ezquerra, has passed away at the age of 70 as a result of complications from lung cancer. The news was confirmed by Carlos Ezquerra’s publisher, EC Comics, and the news led to tributes from many in comic fandom, including from former Judge Dredd writer, Mark Millar.
In addition to Judge Dredd, Carlos Ezquerra also worked as the main illustrator on the series Stronium Dog, which ran from 1978-92 before being revived in 2008. He also had frequent collaborators with Garth Ennis on comics such as Bloody Mary, Adventures in the Rifle Brigade, and a Preacher miniseries featuring the Saint of Killers, who is also featured prominently in the AMC adaptation.
