The family of Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher have publicly disavowed themselves from an upcoming book that’s centered on the legendary movie star.
Carrie Fisher, who died after suffering a heart attack on December 27, 2016 is the subject of an upcoming book from author Sheila Weller titled Carrie Fisher: A Life on the Edge. The book is set to be published on November 12 by Sarah Crichton Books.
Bryan Lourd, the father of Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd released the following statement in regards to Weller’s book:
“A person named Sheila Weller has taken it upon herself to sell and write an unauthorized biography based on my daughter’s mother, Carrie Fisher. I do not know Ms. Weller. Billie does not know Ms. Weller. And, to my knowledge, Carrie did not know her.
For all the fans and friends of Carrie, I just thought it necessary that you know this information before you decided to purchase this book or consider what is being said in the upcoming press interviews Weller will do while trying to sell it. To be clear I haven’t read the book. The only books about Carrie Fisher worth reading are the ones Carrie wrote herself. She perfectly told us everything we needed to know.”
Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher spoke to THR, expressing his concerns regarding Weller’s book:
“I don’t understand how you can write a book about Carrie without talking to those who knew her best. I will never judge her, only love her. I will always be inspired by her life and all she accomplished in the face of great adversity. Only people walking in her shoes, with her condition can truly understand the trials of her life. All those that are perfect please stand up. The rest of us will remain seated.”
Carrie Fisher became a cinematic icon when she first appeared as Princess Leia in Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. She since appeared in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She was also an accomplished writer, having written novels including Postcards from the Edge (which she also wrote the screenplay for its film adaptation), its sequel The Best Awful There Is, and a memoir titled The Princes Diarist which was published in 2016.
Carrie Fisher will make her final appearance as General Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Here is the synopsis:
