Having just won a BAFTA Award for his role in Manchester by the Sea, Casey Affleck, younger brother of Ben Affleck, is waiting to see if he’ll also be taking home an Oscar for the role. Despite having all that on his mind, reporters backstage at the BAFTAs had something else on their minds. Metro.co.uk was there to hear Affleck field a question about taking on a role in big brother Ben’s The Batman movie. Specifically, would he be interested in suiting up as Robin?
Even though Ben is still attached to star as Batman in the film, it sounds like Casey isn’t sold on the idea of joining him and making it a true dynamic duo.
“I think that part has already been played. It’s been set up. It’s been established in the last Batman. They mix it up a lot,” he said.
Sounding unenthused about the part to begin with, Affleck went on to officially declare he’s not interested in the role. “It hasn’t been offered to me. No I don’t think I want to do that.”
With a slew of back-and-forth news swirling about The Batman, it’s at least refreshing to know something relatively definite about the film, even if it means no Affleck bros. team-up.
Of course, Ben was initially attached to direct the film but eventually dropped out. It now seems like a script is finished and has been well-received by those involved. It’s also been recently announced the Matt Reeves will be stepping in to direct the film.
The Batman is still expected to hit theaters sometime in 2019, but no official release date has been set yet.
Ben Affleck can be seen as the Dark Knight next in Justice League, opening November 17.
It looks like Casey Affleck is next set to star in 2018’s The Old Man and the Gun.
