Marvel Comics will honor Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman on its upcoming comic covers.
After the heartbreaking loss of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Comics is paying tribute to the star by adding a banner to its upcoming comics in a similar way to how they paid homage to Stan Lee. There’s been an outpouring of love from comic book industry for Boseman as many recognize the legacy he left behind and what his performance meant to millions of fans across the world. Most recently a memorial for the actor which aired on ABC has been added to Disney Plus.
But Marvel Comics is continuing its tribute to the Black Panther star with a banner at the top of all the upcoming comics arriving on the shelves soon. As revealed by AIPT, the banner reads “Rest in Power Chadwick Boseman: 1976 – 2020” with two Black Panther symbols on either side, with some Wakanda themed patterns in the background. It’s a fitting nod to the actor as comic fans were devastated to learn of his passing. It’s not the first tribute from Marvel, as Marvel Studios recently revealed its official tribute art for the actor.
Chadwick Boseman began his acting career in television, landing his first role in 2003. Boseman’s big break came much later with his portrayal of baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the Brian Helgeland-directed biopic 42. He then gained further recognition for his work as James Brown in Tate Taylor’s Get on Up.
Following his roles as Jackie Robinson and James Brown, Chadwick Boseman was cast as T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor made his debut as the iconic Marvel character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War before reprising the role in the standalone film Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler. Boseman’s Black Panther was then seen in Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up Endgame.
Chadwick Boseman was last seen in Spike Lee’s Netflix film Da 5 Bloods. Prior to that, Boseman starred in the Brian Kirk-directed action thriller 21 Bridges, which was produced by Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame helmers Joe and Anthony Russo. His final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, is expected to hit Netflix later this year.
