Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War!
Avengers: Infinity War featured a number of surprises, though one of the most unexpected turns of events involved the return of Captain America’s nemesis, Red Skull. Revealed to be the guardian of the soul stone, many fans were thrilled to see one of the first Marvel Cinematic Universe villains return for the latest film. However, while Hugo Weaving portrayed the genocidal villain in the first Captain America film, the role had been recast for his latest appearance.
Portraying the Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War is actor Ross Marquand, perhaps best-known for his role as Aaron on The Walking Dead and his spot-on celebrity impressions. There has been no official statement on the reason for the recasting and one can imagine that it will be some time before we get an explanation, considering the secrecy behind Red Skull’s appearance.
