Charlie Hunnam Not Returning For ‘Pacific Rim 2’

While Pacific Rim 2 is moving forward, a major cast member from the first film will not be returning. Charlie Hunnam will not be reprising his role of Raleigh Becket.

The first script of the project did include the character of Becket but due to Hunnam’s schedule, he wasn’t able to work with the shooting schedule for Pacific Rim 2. While he can’t be apart of the project, he is still very excited that a sequel is happening.

“I’m very excited about it. I’m glad they’re making it.”

The cast will be lead by John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba’s ‘Stacker Pentecoat’ from the original and took to Twitter to confirm the casting news himself.

Guillermo Del Toro, who directed the first entry and co-created the world alongside Travis Beacham but will only act as a producer on the sequel, had the following to say about this casting news.

I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.

Production is set to begin later this year but no further details are currently known about the project and no release date has currently been set. Sound off with your thoughts on this casting news in the comments section below.
