Captain America: Civil War concluded with Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes being paralyzed from the waist down following the confrontation between the Avengers. In an interview with Good Morning America, Don Cheadle discussed what condition audiences will find War Machine in when he returns for Avengers: Infinity War.
Cheadle explained that Rhodes will be receiving some tech that will grant him mobility:
“[…] when you have somebody like Tony, who is a master of tech and can create things that can get you over the hump, then you can walk again.”
However, Cheadle would not refer to the device as ‘artificial’:
“I don’t know that I’d like to use that word, I like fake… It’s an augmentation. It’s somewhat bionic.”
