It is now officially confirmed that Chewbacca is going to be showing up in the Han Solo standalone. Now, this was already certainly going to be happening, but it has now been confirmed by Bob Iger that Chewie is in it. This is of course great news to get from the Disney CEO, even though we already knew this was already undoubtedly going to be the case.
He confirmed this at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference. TheWrap reported the news of the confirmation.
This is what Bob Iger said:
“‘Rogue One’ … is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star,” he said. “It takes place right before George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called ‘A New Hope.’”
Then he continued, and this is where the Chewie confirmation came, saying:
“We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy,” he continued. “And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there will possibly be more thereafter.”
While again, this is what we expected, it is still exciting! I’m so looking forward to seeing how everything went down with them. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the movie. They are such incredible directors. It’s going to be amazing to see what they do. Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan are on the screenplay. Having them write it is of course fantastic. Everyone behind this is great, so I have every reason to believe that what they come up with will be amazing.
It will be great once we find out who our young Han Solo is. No matter who it ends up being, I trust in their decision.
This is for sure going to be emotional, and a whole lot of fun. I’m so excited to see the young smuggler and lovable Wookiee together again.
