‘Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina’ Almost Had A Big Sitcom Tribute

Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

In a recent interview, the creator of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina confirmed that the show almost featured a big tribute to the original 90s sitcom.

During the interview, creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa admitted that the show’s fifth episode was meant to be a completely different animal then it turned out to be. During the episode, Sabrina and her entire family are attacked by a nightmare demon who puts them all to sleep and sends them into a horrible nightmare from which they must escape. But apparently the nightmare itself was originally intended to be much different.

During the interview, Aguirre-Sacasa stated that the nightmare was meant to be a prolonged tribute to the original show. His bosses, however, talked him out of pursuing it:

Originally, I was going to do Sabrina’s nightmare as she’s trapped in a sitcom as an homage to the television show. I really was taken by that idea. My bosses said ‘listen, we love the ’90s show, we understand what you’re doing but give it a beat before you start doing stuff like that,’ and they were right. But originally Sabrina’s nightmare was going to be done in the style of the ’90s or a ’90s sitcom.

From the sound of things, the executives in charge of the show want it to be it’s own thing before the show does any intentional tributes.

What do you all make of this? Would you have liked to have seen the nightmare demon episode take a more comedic approach or were the bosses right for knocking down the idea? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

The series stars Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Miranda Otto, Lucy Hale, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Michelle Gomez, Richard Coyle and Bronson Pinchot.

All episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
