Avengers: Endgame star Chris Evans kind of spoiled the conclusion of Captain America’s story during a fan event in Shanghai earlier this month. Spoilers follow.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame concluded with Chris Evans’ Captain America traveling to the past in order to return the Infinity Stones to the point they were collected, thus keeping the original timeline intact. However, instead of returning to the present, Chris Evans’ Captain America decided to remain in the past and live out a long and happy life with Peggy Carter.

While nearly everyone agrees it was a fitting conclusion to Captain America’s story, fans spent the months and years ahead of Endgame‘s release speculating on the first Avenger’s fate, with many concerned Steve Rogers would meet his demise. However, it appears Chris Evans gave fans a clue about Captain America’s happy ending in his response to a question about what Steve Rogers would do with the Time Stone during a fan event in Shanghai ahead of Endgame‘ theatrical debut:

“If I had the time stone, I think Steve Rogers would be interested in pursuing a relationship with Peggy Carter. Honestly, the Time Stone, if he can go anywhere, I mean, he’s a man out of time, he’s had to reconcile the fact that he’s not from this place and Peggy Carter really represents a love.”

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
