Chris Evans’ Captain America Originally Had A Beard In ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Chris Evans’s Captain America originally had a beard for a portion of Avengers: Endgame.

After Thanos’ devastating snap, the second most talked-about detail from Avengers: Infinity War was Captain America’s beard. During his almost decade-long tenure as Captain America, Chris Evans’ character was always clean-shaven. In Infinity War, Captain America had no choice but to rock a beard to fit in with the crowds while hiding. However, the beard came off in Avengers: Endgame to the chagrin of many but that wasn’t always the case.

In an Instagram livestream, the Russo Brothers revealed that Chris Evans was originally going to have the beard in Avengers: Endgame all the way until Thanos was killed by Thor, about twenty minutes into the movie. Once the mission was over, Captain America would return to his clean-shaven look. Unfortunately, an early scene in the completed film saw Evans’ Captain America shaving off his beard.

The reason why the original plan didn’t work out was because the brothers needed Chris Evans to film a scene without the beard. To preserve their intentions, they tried to give the Captain America star a beard prosthetic but it just didn’t look right, so they decided to just have the hero have a scene where he was shaving it off. When Captain America shaves away his beard in Avengers: Endgame, it’s almost like he’s getting rid of the persona he carried during hiding. It would have been cool to see Evans with the beard one last time, but luckily, we have an entire Avengers film that gives us just that!
