Chris Evans On Possible Captain America Return: ‘It’s Not A Hard No’

Chris Evans discussed whether or not he would ever be willing to reprise his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame concluded the eight-year story of Chris Evans’ Captain America by having the First Avengers travel back in time and live out his life in the past with Peggy Carter. It was one of the few decisions Chris Evans’ Captain America made for his own happiness and many consider it to be a fitting ending to longtime hero’s journey.

Of course, many would still love to see Chris Evans reprise his role as Captain America in the future and Avengers: Endgame certainly didn’t close the door on a potential return down the line. During the most recent episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors interview series, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson discussed the possibility of seeing the former return to the role of Captain America:

“Everything clicks when I get up. Recovery is not the same. You never say never. I love the character. I don’t know.”

When Scarlett Johansson asked Chris Evans to clarify it was not “a hard no,” the former  Captain America agreed with her assessment. However, Chris Evans added that he is not eager to play Captain America again and would only do so if it added to the character’s story:

“It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either. There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together.”

Would you like to see Chris Evans return as Captain America one day or should the creative team at Marvel let the character’s story remain complete? Let us know your thoughts below!
