Chris Evans, Marvel Studios’ original Captain America, has talked about his MCU co-star Hayley Atwell’s transformation into her own multiversal super soldier, Captain Carter.
Chris Evans originally joined the MCU in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The film introduced the former Human Torch actor in the role of Steve Rogers, a sickly kid from Brooklyn in the early 1940s, who wanted to do his part to help with the war effort. With assistance from Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, Steve became the first – and ultimately only – super soldier created by Project Rebirth. The Disney Plus series What If…? revealed an alternate reality in which it was Peggy who ended up receiving the Super Soldier Serum instead, transforming her into Captain Carter.
Hayley Atwell went on to appear as Captain Carter in live action earlier this year, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and her former Captain America co-star couldn’t be happier for her.
From One Super Soldier To Another
Chris Evans has leapt from one blockbuster franchise to another lately, leaving behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe in favor of Disney and Pixar to take on the lead role in Lightyear. While promoting that movie, which follows the character who inspired Toy Story‘s Buzz Lightyear action figure, Evans was asked about Hayley Atwell’s turn as Captain Carter.
Reflecting on his own time working with Hayley Atwell, the Captain America star admitted he hasn’t seen her in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness yet, but is excited for her to be taking on this new iteration of Peggy Carter. He told MTV News:
“Yeah, that’s right. No, I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it. I mean, she’s perfect for it. I mean, who, she’s truly just one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with and just one of the loveliest humans. So, I couldn’t be happier for her.”
It’s not yet clear when or if Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter will appear again, though the actress is keen to reprise the role. Chris Evans can be heard as the voice of Buzz in Lightyear in theaters now. Here is the official synopsis:
The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.
Directed by Angus MacLane, the film features the voice talents of Chris Evans, Uzo Aduba, Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Efren Ramirez, and Keira Hairston.
