Chris Hemsworth, who returns to the MCU as Thor in next month’s Thor: Love and Thunder, has talked about the punishing training regimen he undertook to get into shape for the movie.
Thor has always been mighty, but according to Chris Hemsworth, Love and Thunder saw him becoming “the biggest and fittest” he had ever been. The film finds Thor some time after Avengers: Endgame, where he had fallen out of shape and piled on a few pounds. Love and Thunder will see the Asgardian working hard to whip himself back into shape and apparently his efforts pay off big time.
Thor’s Hammer Curls
Talking to extratv to promote his new Netflix movie, Spiderhead, Chris Hemsworth opened up about building some serious muscle for his latest Marvel outing in Thor: Love and Thunder. The film marks the first time an Avenger has appeared in a fourth standalone movie and apparently Hemsworth took a “go hard or go home” approach.
The Thor actor admitted he had enjoyed his training for Love and Thunder, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t brutal. Talking about the work he put in to get bigger than ever, Hemsworth revealed:
“This was particularly hard because the target weight we aimed for was quite a ways above where I’d been before. This was probably the biggest and fittest I’ve ever been. We had 12 months where I was at home just training and puppeteering the body and manipulating. We’d try more swimming, then try more martial arts, and adjust calories. It was a really fun exploration. I got really big and fit, but then just had to hold it for four months, which was very hard.”
The hard work has certainly paid off and Marvel fans have noticed Chris Hemsworth is looking mightier than ever in the trailers and promotional images for Thor: Love and Thunder. The trailer even teases Zeus and the gods of Olympus getting a particularly good look at Thor’s impressive physique – much to the Asgardian’s chagrin.
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
