‘Nightwing’ Director Chris McKay Still Hopeful To Make The DC Film

There's still hope for Nightwing after all!

Chris McKay still holds out hope that his planned DC Comics movie Nightwing will be made.

While promoting his new film The Tomorrow War, Chris McKay was asked by Variety about any future projects he has following his new Amazon Original film starring Chris Pratt. Chris McKay told the trade that he is still hoping to direct his Nightwing movie for DC Films someday, although it is not currently a priority for the future of the DC Extended Universe at this time.

Here is what Chris McKay had to say about the future of his planned film:

“Nightwing is still a movie that I really want to do. I love the character of Dick Grayson as a young adult, becoming his own kind of superhero character. That was gonna be a father and son story and also a revenge movie, which I was really excited about because there’s a lot going on in that script. It was gonna be really primal and pared down and like a real red meat movie in the best way.

I don’t have a firm commitment yet, but I hope that it’s something that we can still make. It has not been a priority these days; I’m hoping that it will become the priority soon. That’d be my favorite thing to come out of all of this stuff.”

Before directing The Tomrorow War, Chris McKay had a background in animation, working with the Adult Swim series Robot Chicken and Moral Orel. He also made his directorial debut on The LEGO Batman Movie, which was released the same year he signed on to direct a Nightwing movie for DC Films. Although the future of Batman on the big screen seems to be focused on Robert Pattinson, it’s possible this planned Nightwing film could still see the light of day.

Meanwhile, Dick Grayson made his live-action debut as Nightwing during Titans season two:

In Season 2, following the aftermath of their encounter with Trigon, Dick reforms the Titans. Under his supervision in their new home at Titans Tower, Rachel, Gar and Jason Todd train together to hone their hero abilities and work together as a team. They are joined by Hank Hall and Dawn Granger aka Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl. Although these original Titans attempt to transition into a regular life, when old enemies resurface everyone must come together to take care of unfinished business. And as this family of old and new Titans – including Conner Kent and Rose Wilson – learn to co-exist, the arrival of Deathstroke brings to light the sins of the old Titans which threaten to tear this new Titans family apart once more.

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Minka Kelly as Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zhang as Rose, Curran Walters as Red Hood, and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.

The first two seasons of Titans are available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Nightwing, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
