Chris Pratt Reflects On His Failed ‘Superman Returns’ Audition

On 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,' Chris Pratt reflected on his failed 'Superman Returns' audition and his chance to play Superman.

Chris Pratt Superman ReturnsOn The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Chris Pratt and Stephen Colbert talked about a number of things, from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to Strangers with Candy to Pratt’s failed Superman Returns audition. That’s right, Star-Lord was once being considered to play the Big Blue Boy Scout himself. However, it sounds as if Chris Pratt being Superman simply wasn’t meant to be.

When Colbert expressed that, after hearing the news of Pratt’s audition, he immediately felt like Pratt was capable of playing such a huge, iconic hero, Pratt quickly retorted with: “The casting director did not agree.”

Going on to reflect about the experience and being passed over for the 2006 film, Pratt is ultimately glad he didn’t get the chance to play Superman.

“It just goes to show that it’s all divinely planned. If it’s not working out in the moment, then have faith that it might work out in the future. The no’s that you get today might mean an even more powerful yes in the future. You know what I mean? I’m glad I wasn’t Superman!”

It might be shocking to hear that someone was glad they didn’t get to play a role of such importance, but Pratt’s reflection on the past is powerful. Looking back on that rejection might be difficult from some people, but Pratt is capable of seeing what that “no” ultimately led to: the chance to play Star-Lord – a role Pratt seems to have been made for.
