Mission: Impossible – Fallout writer and director Christopher McQuarrie revealed in a recent interview he is currently working on the script for Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise.
McQuarrie is notorious for being a frequent collaborator with Cruise. McQuarrie directed the movie star in Jack Reacher and most recently in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Fallout. McQuarrie also wrote for Valkyrie, Edge of Tomorrow, and The Mummy. Filming for Top Gun: Maverick is currently underway and McQuarrie revealed in a recent interview with Empire he is working on the script for the long awaited sequel.

Details on the film are currently under wraps, though the film will follow Pete “Maverick” Mitchell teaching a new generation of pilots including a young trainee named Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Top Gun character Nick “Goose” Bradshaw who died tragically in the first film. Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky while Jennifer Connelly plays a woman who runs a local Navy bar.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski from a script written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Edward Miller, and Zack Stentz, with Christopher McQuarrie. Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Thomasin McKenzie, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2020.
