Colin Farrell will apparently don prosthetics to create a menacing version of The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
While fans have seen a few different versions of The Penguin in live-action over the years, it seems that Colin Farrell’s take on the gangster will use prosthetics when The Batman finally arrives in October next year. Not much is known about Penguin’s role in the film, but since Matt Reeves seems to be taking The Batman in a fresh direction it’s likely that Farrell’s villain will show fans a different version of the character than the ones the Dark Knight has gone up against in the past.
Mrs. Doubtfire star Rob McClure was recently discussing the stage version of the Robin Williams movie in a Q&A when he revealed that he saw the prosthetics for Colin Farrell’s Penguin as he was getting fitted to play the iconic nanny, because the same company worked on both projects. While the star doesn’t reveal what the prosthetic designs were, it’s likely that Farrell will have a larger nose to play the villain.
“I walked in and they were like ‘hang on, we just have to clear off this table’ and they were building the Penguin prosthetics for Colin Farrell in the new Batman movie, I was like ‘I’m in the right place’”

Full plot details on The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film is known to center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. Following the Caped Crusader during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector, the film will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous adaptations. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on October 1, 2021.
