‘Crisis On Infinite Earth’ Producer On Working Around Flashpoint Film To Include Ezra Miller’s The Flash

Ezra Miller The Flash Grant Gustin Crisis On Infinite Earths Arrowverse Jim Lee

Crisis on Infinite Earths producer Marc Guggenheim discussed how they had to workout around DC’s Flashpoint film in order to bring on Ezra Miller as The Flash.

The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths assembled multiple actors from various past and present DC projects, but fans were stunned and thrilled when Ezra Miller’s The Flash made a brief appearance in the fourth installment of the crossover. Perhaps what made the cameo even more memorable was the fact that word of Ezra Miller’s appearance as The Flash managed to remain a secret right up until the Crisis on Infinite Earths episode aired.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Crisis on Infinite Earths producer Marc Guggenheim credit Jim Lee and DC Entertainment film VP Adam Schlagman with helping make the Ezra Miller cameo as The Flash possible. Of course, as Marc Guggenheim explained, everyone involved had to work together to ensure Ezra Miller’s appearance as The Flash in Crisis did not narratively interfere with plans for the upcoming Flashpoint film:

“Absolutely. Basically, I was really working hand-in-hand with Jim. From the moment we found out that this was a possibility, to once we knew Grant Gustin was cool and on board with it and Ezra was on board with it, I would send drafts of the scene to both Jim Lee and [DC Entertainment’s film VP] Adam Schlagman and we would just go back and forth. The trick with the scene is that I didn’t want to and they didn’t want me to do anything that stepped on the toes of the Flashpoint movie that they’re developing. So, we really worked hand-in-hand. Jim was really great about just making sure that all the parties were talking to each other, that nothing was getting stalled. He was a cheerleader when he needed to be, a diplomat when he needed to be. He really stepped up in every way one could do it. His enthusiasm really helped make this possible.”

IT director Andy Mushcietti has signed on to direct Ezra Miller’s The Flash from a script penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. The Flashpoint film is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 1st, 2022.

For those unaware, the Flashpoint storyline in the comics followed The Flash as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

Were you happy to see Ezra Miller’s The Flash appear in Crisis on Infinite Earths? Are you excited to see what Ezra Miller has planned for Flashpoint?
