The upcoming Crisis On Infinite Earths Arrowverse crossover may have had even more ambitious plans as one of its producers teased that he reached out to Nicolas Cage to play a version of Superman.
During a Twitter exchange, a fan jokingly called for Crisis on Infinite Earths producer Marc Guggenheim to include Nicolas Cage’s version of Superman before jokingly calling him a coward. He responded by asking the fan why he thought that they didn’t reach out:
What makes you think we didn't reach out… 😜

Nicolas Cage was, of course, cast to play Superman in the ill-fated film Superman Lives. The film was set to be directed by Tim Burton and would have been based primarily on The Death and Return of Superman story arc. The film sadly ran into financing problems after Warner Bros. lost faith in the project due in no small part to the underperformance of 1997’s Batman and Robin. Nicolas Cage would ultimately only play Superman once in the Teen Titans Go! To the Movies film but never played the character in live-action. But based on what Marc Guggenheim is saying, he may have wanted Nicolas Cage for Crisis on Infinite Earths!
