From one Australian actor to another.

New artwork imagines Dacre Montgomery as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine successor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Hugh Jackman officially hung up his Wolverine claws in 2017 with Logan. The James Mangold-directed film served as Hugh Jackman’s swan song from the beloved X-Men hero and was acclaimed by critics and fans alike. Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine received much praise, and the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Now that Marvel Studios has the rights to bring the X-Men into the MCU canon, it appears likely that the entire franchise will be rebooted. With that in mind, recasting the beloved Mutants is expected, and naturally, Hugh Jackman’s potential Wolverine successor is at the top of many fans’ minds. Well, perhaps Power Rangers and Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery could be a good candidate.

In a new piece of fan art from Instagram user Evan Pennock, Dacre Montgomery is depicted in a character design resembling one of Hugh Jackman’s signature Wolverine looks: his hairstyle, grizzled demeanor and tank top. You can see Dacre Montgomery as Wolverine below.

Dacre Montgomery is most-recognized for his role as Billy Hargrove in the second and third seasons of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Both that role as well as his role in Power Rangers showcased him involved in some action sequences, so joining another franchise wouldn’t be much of a stretch for him. After all, Stranger Things 3 in particular showcased his emotional range as an actor, and his intensity during the season’s climactic finale could serve as good example of why he could be a good choice for Wolverine.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed plans to include mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. However, Marvel is reportedly in no rush to bring the X-Men back to the big screen, meaning it will likely be some time before we learn who will replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
