Danielle Brooks John Cena The Suicide Squad Peacemaker

John Cena’s Peacemaker show from The Suicide Squad director James Gunn adds Danielle Brooks to the cast of the HBO Max series.

UPDATE: HBO Max has also added Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland and Chris Conrad to the cast of Peacemaker.

Danielle Brooks has joined John Cena’s Peacemaker series which is being helmed by The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. The project starts production in January 2021 in Vancouver and continues until June. Brooks isn’t the only recent addition to Peacemaker, as Steve Agee will reprise his role as the Warden of Belle Reve, John Economos. Fans will likely know Danielle Brooks for her role as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black.

Deadline broke the news that Danielle Brooks is joining The Suicide Squad spinoff series, revealing that she’ll play Leota Adebayo – although it’s not clear what the character will get up to, since she doesn’t seem to be a notable DC Comics character. Although knowing James Gunn’s affinity for the 1980s Suicide Squad comics, it’s possible she’s adapted from another side character, hero or villain that he’s decided to expand upon.

The other new additions to the cast include, Robert Patrick who will play Auggie Smith, Chris Conrad who will play Adrian Chase/Vigilante and Jennifer Holland is set to reprise her role from The Suicide Squad, Emilia Harcourt.
