The chances of Dave Bautista landing the lead role of Marcus Fenix in the live-action Gears of War movie don’t appear to be good according to the actor himself.
Dave Bautista has been quite the fan-favorite pick to play Marcus Fenix since before Universal’s live-action Gears of War movie was even announced. Not only do fans want Dave Bautista to star in the Gears of War movie, but the actor has also made it clear that he wants to play Marcus Fenix, going as far as to call it a “dream role.”
But it doesn’t look like the film’s producer’s are to keen on the idea. Dave Bautista, who has pursued the role for years now, recently responded to a fan’s request to get him cast in Gears of War and admitted that he’s tried everything to get the job but the production doesn’t seem to care.

They’re listening. And they could give AF! ?.. but thank you for the support. Believe me when I say I’ve tried everything to make this happen. https://t.co/8THxKLkbdV

Scott Frazier (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) is set to write Universal Pictures’ video game adaptation of Gears of War. Dylan Clark (Planet of the Apes, Oblivion) is producing the project through his Dylan Clark Productions banner with Gears of War co-creator Rod Fergusson. Scott Stuber (Identity Thief) is serving as executive producer. Executive vice president of production Jon Mone and creative executive Mika Pryce are overseeing development for the studio with senior vice president of production Brian Williams overseeing for Dylan Clark Productions.
Microsoft acquired the Gears of War video game series back in 2014. Fergusson returned to lead Microsoft’s development studio The Coalition which is focused solely on the Gears of War franchise. Shane Salerno (Armageddon) was previously attached to write the film’s script. Plot details remain under wraps but the video game adaptation has been previously described as a new story within the Gears of War universe, rather than an adaptation of one of the games in the series.
Gears of War was launched by developer Epic Games in 2006 defined the first-generation of high-definition gaming. The iconic franchise went on to gross over $1 billion with over 45 million players across the globe. The latest installment of the game series, Gears of War 4 released in the fall of 2016.
