David Ayer tweeted out that he wants his version of Suicide Squad released because he wants his best work represented.
It’s no surprise that the theatrically released version of Suicide Squad wasn’t exactly what director David Ayer sought out to make when he first got the job. Upon its release, Suicide Squad was vilified by both fans and critics alike who found the film to be lacking any cohesiveness or narrative. Ayer, of course, has always maintained that he’s proud of what was released but that it wasn’t what he intended to make. With the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League becoming a reality, fans have been hoping to see Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad get the same treatment.
In a recent tweet, David Ayer stated that he wants his Suicide Squad released only so fans know how hard he worked on it. The director also applauded Zack Snyder for getting his cut of Justice League approved and said that he wouldn’t mind if his version of Suicide Squad came out in five years.
Grace I don’t mind if my cut is seen in 5 years. I simply want the best version of my work represented. Zack deserves this wonderful wonderful opportunity he’s been given by @hbomax and @ATT — It’s all love. https://t.co/4pGygIG5hB

When Suicide Squad released, fans complained that all of the characters were underdeveloped and that there was a distinctive lack of Jared Leto’s Joker. David Ayer’s original intentions with the film would have fleshed out all of these components and resulted in a film that would have genuinely made fans excited for the DC Extended Universe. Hopefully, once the dust has settled with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Ayer’s Suicide Squad can get the same treatment.

Here is the synopsis for the 2016 film:
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Written and directed by David Ayer, the film stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood.
