With production on the next Superman movie now underway, DC Studios co-head James Gunn has officially unveiled the first look at the new “S” symbol on David Corenswet’s DC Universe suit, which notably appears to draw inspiration from the iconic Kingdom Come logo.
Today, James Guun took to Instagram to share an exciting update regarding the next Superman movie, now officially titled Superman instead of Superman: Legacy. His Instagram post showcases the new House of El crest, prominently displayed on what seems to be David Corenswet’s costume, covered with snow. Adding to the excitement, Gunn shared that filming began on February 29, a date that just so happens to be Superman’s birthday in the page of DC Comics.
In his caption, Gunn reflects on the evolution of the film’s title, stating, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
Superman promises a fresh take on the iconic superhero saga, featuring David Corenswet stepping into the role of Superman, previously portrayed by Henry Cavill, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Joining Corenswet and Brosnahan in this new chapter of the Superman story is Nicholas Hoult, who is taking on the role of the villainous Lex Luthor.
James Gunn recently provided fans with a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of the upcoming Superman movie, showcasing the cast following a table read. The ensemble also includes Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Anthony Carrigan, and Terence Rosemore.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and his DC Studios partner Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
