It is not always easy being mean, just ask The Governor actor David Morrissey, who found it difficult killing off Scott Wilson’s Hershel on The Walking Dead.
David Morrissey, who once captivated television viewers as the one-eyed villain The Governor on The Walking Dead, spoke highly of late actor and co-star Scott Wilson during his cheers at the Walker Stalker Cruise (via ComicBook) this year:
I mean, Scott has been always a great man, he was a very special man, a very special actor, but a very special man as well.
Because of his respect for Scott Wilson, David Morrissey was saddened by the news that his character was going to kill off Hershel:
The thing for me was that I was going to kill him and then I knew I was going to die immediately after, so it was a tough day, it was a really tough day. Him and I went out afterwards and we sort of played some pool, we played some golf and stuff, but yeah, it was a sad day.
Hershel’s death came in season four of The Walking Dead in a sad episode titled Too Far Gone in which a vengeful Governor held Hershel and Michonne (Danai Gurira) hostage outside the walls of a prison claimed by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group.
David Morrissey commented on how difficult it is for everyone involved with The Walking Dead, both cast and crew, whenever someone has to leave the show:
“But it’s a sad day when anybody that we like leaves the show, I mean, that’s the show we’re on and when anybody that’s been on it for a long time has to sort of depart, it’s really tough for all of us.”
David Morrissey remembers Scott Wilson as:
“A great man and true friend.”
