DC’s adult animated series Harley Quinn has officially been renewed for a fourth season on HBO Max with Sarah Peters taking over as showrunner.

With Harley Quinn‘s third season coming to an end soon on HBO Max and the future of all DC film and TV projects currently in question, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The animated series, which features The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco as the Joker’s former right-hand-woman, is coming back for Season 4.

When the series returns, Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker will be stepping aside as showrunners, with Sarah Peters taking over.

A New Direction For Harley Quinn

Sarah Peters has written for Harley Quinn since the DC series’ first season and is currently a consulting producer.

Harley Quinn has seen the titular supervillain embark on a new romance with Poison Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell in the series. The two have become a power couple amongst the supervillains of Gotham, teaming up with Ron Funches’ King Shark, Alan Tudyk’s Clayface and JB Smoove’s Frank the Plant.

Speaking about the Season 4 renewal, outgoing showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker said:

“We are ecstatic that HBO Max wants the story of Harley and Ivy to continue. And we are equally thrilled that this next season will be in great hands with Sarah Peters as our showrunner and Ceci Aranovich overseeing animation production, as they have both greatly influenced the show with their brilliance since the beginning.”

Recently, the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader unfortunately joined Batgirl amongst DC projects cancelled by Warner Bros. Discovery. News that Harley Quinn has survived the current DC overhaul comes as a welcome relief.
