Harley Quinn fans won't be happy!

DC Studios co-head James Gunn has responded to rumors that Margot Robbie will be returning as Harley Quinn in a DC Universe prequel series. The rumors suggested that the series would explore the story of how Harley’s “need to save the Joker led to her mind being shattered.”

When asked about the rumors, James Gunn confirmed that there is no such series in the works. Harley Quinn has become an iconic character in the DC Universe, thanks to her unique personality and quirky behavior. Her popularity skyrocketed after Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the character in 2016’s Suicide Squad and she has since appeared in several other DCU movies and TV shows.

James Gunn’s response has raised questions about where and when we might see Harley Quinn again. Given that none of the projects in the first chapter of the DC Universe seem like a good fit for the character, it is unclear what Gunn and his DC Studios partner Peter Safran have planned for her next.

Margot Robbie’s work as Harley Quinn has been praised by both fans and critics, and many are hoping that she will continue to play the character in future DC Universe projects. The actress has previously expressed her love for the character and her willingness to return to the role.

In the meantime, Harley Quinn fans can look forward to the character’s Joker: Folie à Deux appearance. Lady Gaga is taking on the role of Harley Quinn for the upcoming comic book movie, with Joaquin Phoenix returning as The Joker.

What can audiences expect from the Joker sequel?

After the first film ended with Arthur Fleck in Arkham State Hospital, it’s likely that – as in previous iterations – Harleen Quinzel will start out as the Joker’s psychiatrist. Plot details are being kept under wraps but the a significant chunk of the sequel is expected to take place in Arkham.

Todd Phillips is directing Joker: Folie à Deux from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver, who also worked on the original. Production is currently underway for an October 2024 release.

The cast of Folie à Deux also features Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.

The first Joker movie is currently available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
