DC Universe released a statement on the sudden cancelation of Swamp Thing and rumors concerning the future of the streaming platform.
Less than a week after Swamp Thing debuted its first episode on DC Universe, the streaming service canceled the series to the surprise of fans and individuals involved with the show. Now, DC Universe has posted an official statement regarding the future of Swamp Thing on the streaming service’s community forum through an individual listed as Universe Community Manager Applejack:
“A million thanks for your patience. We understand this has not been an easy time for you as fans, and I will do my best to provide you with a satisfying answer. […] The full 10 episode season of Swamp Thing will continue to air on DC Universe with new episodes released weekly. There are no current plans for a Season 2.”
The staffer also addressed rumors claiming WarnerMedia is reevaluating DC Universe and how the service fits into its future streaming plans:
“DC Universe continues to develop new shows, new seasons, new stories, more availability, and more platforms. We’ve got a lot of exciting plans for our other shows in the works, and look forward to sharing more in the coming months.”
However, when asked about the reason behind the cancelation of Swamp Thing, the DC Universe staffer replied, “unfortunately we are not in a position to answer at this time.”
SWAMP THING follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz, Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Will Patton as Avery Sunderland, Jennifer Beals as an original character created for the series, Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, Ian Ziering as Blue Devil, and Derek Mears as the titular creature.
Swamp Thing is now available exclusively on DC Universe.
