Production on the Deadpool sequel is currently underway and a new set photo has revealed an Easter egg that references the Canadian superhero team named Alpha Flight. The photo was shared by HollywoodNorth and features the name Alpha Flight on a Taxi ad, though it appears to be for a travel agency that shares the team’s name rather than a direct reference to the Canadian mutants.

Of course, while the Easter egg may simply be a nod to the Canadian superheroes, their existence in the X-Men film universe is not out of the question. Earlier this year producer and X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg mentioned the superhero team as potential characters who could be utilized in future projects.
Speaking as a Canadian, it is always nice to see my country’s superhero team receive some acknowledgement, especially right before the country celebrates it’s 150th anniversary.
Directed by David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin a.k.a. Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al and Jack Kesy.
The Deadpool sequel will be released in theaters on June 1, 2018.
