‘Deadpool 2’ Spoiled Two Major ‘Dark Phoenix’ Deaths

Deadpool 2 Dark Phoenix

A scene in Deadpool 2 seemingly spoiled the deaths of two major X-Men characters in Dark Phoenix.

Deadpool 2 was an absolute blast. The film poked fun at the X-Men franchise but ended up making a surprisingly solid X-Men movie. The film primarily focused on Deadpool, Cable, and Domino as they formed X-Force. Just like the comics, X-Force was meant to be an offshoot of the X-Men and was meant to focus on lesser known characters. However, Deadpool 2 didn’t shy away from establishing itself firmly in the X-Men universe.

In a film featuring lots of iconic X-Men cameos,  one that caught many fans by surprise was a cameo of the X-Men team from the then upcoming Dark Phoenix film. The scene featured Deadpool at the X-Mansion asking where all the X-Men are when it is revealed that the team is actually hiding from Deadpool. The scene in question features James McAvoy as Professor X, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Kodi Smit Mcphee as Nightcrawler and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

The quick cameo was probably meant as a light hearted joke but it seems X-Men fans had the deaths of Dark Phoenix characters Jean Grey and Mystique spoiled by this cameo. Deadpool 2 is supposed to take place later in the timeline, following the events of Dark Phoenix, and with both Sophie Turner and Jennifer Lawrence absent from the future X-Men, it seems their fates were revealed to us a whole year before Dark Phoenix hit theaters.

Ultimately, this sneaky spoiler actually causes the Fox X-Men timeline to be accurate for once. In a franchise riddled with plot holes and loose explanations, it is somewhat refreshing to have a bit of consistency with the fates of the characters. While Dark Phoenix was a very dark and depressing end for the current X-Men roster, it should give some fans a bit of joy knowing that the X-Men characters from Dark Phoenix will go on to have many adventures.

With Dark Phoenix being the final chapter for the X-Men it serves a franchise finale for the Fox Marvel era before the X-Men are rebooted by Disney. What did you think of Dark Phoenix?  This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix is now playing in theaters!
