During a special Facebook Live Q&A with Nerdist, Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were asked about the status of the much-anticipated sequel Deadpool 2. Unfortunately, there were no casting reveals or new major details, but they did mention that the script isn’t fully written yet.

However, when discussing one of the film’s most surprisingly funny characters, they mentioned that he would be returning for Deadpool 2. That character would be Dopinder (Karan Soni), Deadpool’s trusty taxi driver that he befriends during his adventure. Wernick announced the character’s return (around the 13:00 mark):

“I would say that the relationship between Dopinder and Deadpool was the most fun for me. I love that relationship and I love that character. And he’ll be in the sequel.”

The last time we saw Dopinder, he was in a bit of a predicament when he locked his cousin Bandhu in the back of his trunk. I’m curious to see how the screenwriters bring the character back into the picture, and hopefully this signifies that actor Karan Soni would once again have hilarious banter with Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

What do you guys think of this news? Are you excited to see Dopinder coming backDid he end up with the love of his life, Gita? Is his cousin Bandhu in stable condition? We will find out when Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on January 12th, 2018.
