‘Deadpool’ Breaks Superhero Digital HD Record

It looks like the Merc with a Mouth already broke numerous records at the box office, with Deadpool becoming not just the highest grossing X-Men film to date, but also the top-grossing R-Rated film ever. 20th Century Fox released the Ryan Reynolds-led blockbuster on April 26, and the film has since broken yet another financial record.

According to The WrapDeadpool has become the fastest-selling digital release for a superhero film – even selling over 1 million units within the first week. Recently, The Martian, another 20th Century Fox release, sold 1 million within three weeks. At that time, that was considered a record, but of course, the Tim Miller film sold similar amounts three times as fast. It has also become the “best performing” Fox film to be released within the Digital HD program – which applies to services such as iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.

With the film’s unprecedented success, a sequel is currently in development with Miller returning to helm along with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Reynolds reprising his role as the antihero.

For fans who are eager for the upcoming Blu-Ray/DVD release as well as On Demand Tuesday, May 10.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
