‘Deadpool’ Surpasses Both ‘Iron Man’ & ‘Man Of Steel’ At The Domestic Box Office

Deadpool Another weekend means another big accomplishment for 20th Centry Fox’s Deadpool. The film, which many initially doubted, has surpassed expectations and gone on to become the highest grossing first entry in a superhero franchise to date at the domestic box office right behind Guardians Of The Galaxy & Spider-Man. This weekend the film hit $328 million at the north American box office which has pushed it past both Marvel Studios’ Iron Man ($318 million) and Warner Bros. Man Of Steel ($291 million).

It’s also expected that Deadpool will surpass Guardians Of The Galaxy sometime next week. Pretty impressive considering this was an R-Rated film featuring no 3D release, huh? It just really goes to show just how strong word of mouth can be when it comes to these types of releases. You can either sink like Fantastic Four or swim for quite some time like Deadpool. How many times have you seen it? Are you going to be going again? Sound off with your thoughts on this news in the comments section below.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Don’t take much to beat MOS nowadays.

    • SonOfKrpton

Didn’t take much to beat all the phase 1 MCU movies except the Avengers either, worldwide.

      • Marquis de Sade

Phase 1 MCU were introductions of C list characters. MOS came out during phase 2.

        • SonOfKrpton

Phase 2 consisted of all sequels except Ant Man and Guardians and Marvel had already become an established brand. Man of Steel was a stand-alone movie in itself.

          • Marquis de Sade

A stand-alone of the most recognized pop-cultural superhero around the world that underperformed, and barely beat an acknowledged crappy Thor sequel.

Look. If you want to talk numbers, Transformers 4 made over a billion dollars. So there you have it. It beat almost all of your pretty Marvel movies.

          • Marquis de Sade

Marvel has 3 movies in the top 10 of the 24 movies who has grossed over 1 billion worldwide.
            AVENGERS – 5, AOU – 7 and IM3 – 10
            DC/Nolan has 2 movies TDK – 24, and TDKR – 16….DCCU – 0, Zip! Nada!

It’s DCEU and they have released only 1 movie so far. And that 1 movie beat most of MCU movies. This is just the beginning.

If Civil War does well, which is pretty much a given, the MCU will nearly reach and may even surpass the $10 Billion mark in gross at the box office worldwide. BvS will do amazingly well, but the DCEU has a long way to go before it really competes with the MCU. However, I hope the DCEU does well because I don’t want them to pull the plug on the universe and go back to only making batman movies.

You are rather biased aren’t you? Iron man was never a c list character

          • Ruben C Barron

He wasn’t C, but for the general public I’d say Iron Man was B level.

          • Technofied

We’re talking Avengers here aren’t we? That was the plan all along, wasn’t it? If yes, then Iron Man has always been the Major Character in Marvel’s Avengers if you follow the comics or, the animations.
