Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is in talks to produce and star in Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Dragon’s Lair.
After years of negotiations, Netflix finally secured the rights to produce a live-action adaptation of the game. Released in 1983, Dragon’s Lair was an arcade game that was notable for its then-groundbreaking graphic technology and use of animation. The style sadly did not take off due in part to technological limitations of the time but remains a staple of the 1980s arcade scene.
Dragon’s Lair eventually became better known as one of the early projects for director Don Bluth. Don Bluth would go on to direct several animated classics of the 1980s which included films like All Dogs Go To Heaven, An American Tail, and The Land Before Time. Don Bluth has, for years, tried to get a new version of Dragon’s Lair made but finally has seemed to have found a home with Netflix and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is currently in talks to star in the adaptation and co-produce it through his Maximum Effort banner. Don Bluth is also set to co-produce the upcoming Dragon’s Lair adaptation as well with Dan and Kevin Hageman, best known for their work on The Lego Movie, set to write the script. A director for the upcoming Netflix adaptation for the video game has not been announced.
