Former Man of Steel actors Dean Cain and Brandon Routh have opened up about Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Batman v Superman is surely the topic of the week. Wether you like it or not the film is here to stay. It’s currently sitting at above 500M globally within 5 days of its release. It’s a big deal because this is the largest amount of money a film has made with such a low Rotten Tomatoes score and Cinemascore. Anyway, let’s not get off the subject at hand. As I said, it is the topic of discussion and it has two past Supermen talking in a great regard towards the film.

Dean Cain has recently found his way back into Superman lore, starring in CBS’ Supergirl as the titular heroes adoptive father. Cain starred in the 1993 series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman when he donned his red underwear for the first time and it’s pretty interesting to see his take on Batman v Superman. When talking to THR, Dean Cain had this to say:

“The movie obviously was so well made; the effects were incredible. It was too long, though, and I admit, I dozed off a tiny bit, but maybe that’s because I was tired after a lot of traveling. … Whenever I played him, I played Superman as if I had a secret that nobody else knew. That secret is that you could always win. It seemed that Superman didn’t have that in this film. That was different for me. I don’t like seeing him get kicked around so hard. But what I did like a lot is that Superman was so heroic in this film and sacrificed himself before anything or anyone else. That is definitely in tune with the Superman that I know and love.”

Another Superman who has found his way back to DC Lore is Brandon Routh. He currently stars in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as Ray Palmer/The ATOM. Brandon Routh made his entry into the Man of Tomorrow’s mythos in 2006’s reboot Superman Returns. The film did ok critically, it was just the fans didn’t like it much. In a recent interview, IGN asked Routh his thoughts on the film. While Routh hasn’t seen Batman v Superman, he had this to say in regards to a darker Superman:

“For me, Superman is always based out of Christopher Reeve’s Superman. The charming, positive quality about Superman, the uplifting quality that allows us to see the better side of our own humanity, and see that reflected: the greatness that we all have within us. That’s the part of Superman that I like to see most, but you know, everybody has multiple sides to their character; we’re not all exactly the same every day,” he continued, perhaps covering his statements a bit. “So it’s interesting to see that in our superheroes as well, I suppose.”

What do you guys think about their comments? Do you think Henry Cavill’s Superman was heroic in Batman v Superman? Tell me your thoughts in the comments section.

Directed by Zack Snyder Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Aflred Pennyworth and Jess Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters everywhere.
