‘The Defenders’: Charlie Cox On Show Being ‘Grounded’, Mike Colter Compares It To ‘The Hangover’

The Defenders is now only a few months away and it will be the first team-up in the Marvel Netflix universe. The team will consist of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The four together will most certainly get into a lot of arguments because, let’s face it, they each are coming into the team with their own individual baggage and different outlooks on life.

Speaking with Empire Online, Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock/Daredevil, spoke about the team-up and that, although the characters and tones of the separate shows were different, The Defenders managed to make it work.

“I was concerned about how you could combine these worlds. Tonally they feel so different. But it feels like all the characters have been respected, and the show has a tone of its own. [They’ve] kept it grounded, but at the same time it lives in a slightly mythical world.”

Adding on to what Cox said, Luke Cage star Mike Colter explained that everyone isn’t immediately onboard with the team-up in The Defenders, but he compares them to crew from The Hangover.

“We’re very reluctant at first. Nobody really wants to work with anyone. By the end of the show, I think it might be more like The Hangover. ‘I don’t ever want to see you again!’”

The four of them together will definitely prove to be an interesting dynamic and a lot of it already feels like it will be played for laughs. And along with the laughs, there’ll also be plenty of action and several appearances by the supporting characters who have appeared across all four shows.

The Defenders will be on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
