The Defenders costume designer Stephanie Maslansky may have revealed the identity of the series’ mysterious villain played by Sigourney Weaver.

Plot details on Marvel’s superhero team-up on Netflix are still under wraps but Weaver stars as a mysterious businesswoman named Alexandra that Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) put their resources together to take on. So far the threat seems to involve Black Sky with the story revolving around the offices at Midland Circle, the place where Daredevil and Elektra (Elodie Yung) discovered the massive hole in the ground in season two of Daredevil.

In an interview with International Business Times, Maslansky teased Weaver’s identity while suggesting that she may be the leader of The Hand, the ninja order that has served as the main antagonist for both Daredevil and Iron Fist:

“I think that she’s clearly a baddie, and she’s the head of an ancient organization which is grounded in the comics. I hope that her wardrobe reflects that kind of ancientness. I hope I haven’t said too much. I hope Marvel doesn’t come after me.”

The series will also see the return of many cast members from the Netflix corner of the MCU including Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Scott Glenn as Stick, and Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker. Here’s the synopsis:

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

The Defenders hits Netflix August 18, 2017.
