First Official ‘Dune’ Image Reveals Denis Villeneuve’s Sci-Fi Epic

Denis Villeneuve Dune Timothee Chalamet

The first image from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is finally here, bringing with it new information about the upcoming science-fiction epic.

Fans finally got a look at Timothée Chalamet in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune when the first image from the science-fiction epic arrived online this morning. The new image shows Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the character previously played by Kyle Maclachlan in David Lynch’s 1984 film and Alec Newman in the 2000 miniseries from Sci-Fi Channel. The character is a young nobleman who travels to the distant planet Arrakis that the House Atreides recently gained control of.

With an impressive ensemble cast, fans have been eagerly anticipating Villeneuve’s adaption of the legendary series of novels by author Frank Herbert. The new image released by Vanity Fair shows Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides ready to leave his home planet Caladan for Arrakis, a world mined for its Spice, which grants superhuman abilities and fuels space travel. Chalamet told Vanity Fair that he was drawn to the role because the character isn’t looking to be a hero.

“The immediately appealing thing about Paul was the fact that in a story of such detail and scale and world-building, the protagonist is on an anti-hero’s-journey of sorts. He thinks he’s going to be sort of a young general studying his father and his leadership of a fighting force before he comes of age, hopefully a decade later, or something like that.”

The publication also revealed that an in-depth look at the new film will arrive tomorrow. Take a look at the new shot of the star in Dune below.
