A new promo video for the upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars series Andor features star Diego Luna revealing how the series fits into the saga’s timeline.
Andor is a prequel to the Star Wars spin-off movie Rogue One, telling the backstory of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. In Rogue One, this intelligence officer of the Rebel Alliance is seen assisting Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso on her mission to acquire the plans for the Death Star.
Season 1 of Andor takes place over the course of a year of Cassian’s life, with the already confirmed second season spanning four years.
Before A New Hope Emerges…
The new teaser for Andor features Diego Luna talking through the Star Wars timeline, confirming both Andor‘s place before Rogue One and A New Hope, and how the series will set in motion the events of those movies.
Check out the new Andor promo below:
In the promo, Diego Luna reveals Andor will find Cassian living as an “unsuspecting thief” and teases him beginning a journey “that sparks the birth of a rebellion and sets in motion everything you’ve come to know.”
The official beginning of the Rebel Alliance has been shown before in Star Wars canon in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. It’s possible that Season 2 of Andor will explore this same event from Cassian’s point of view.
The promo appears to confirm that, while told from Cassian’s perspective, Andor will be the story of the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance as Star Wars fans know it, following early resistance to the Empire as it grows into full-blown rebellion.
Here is the synopsis for Andor:
“The ‘Andor’ series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.”
Andor stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon served as the writers of the Star Wars series while Toby Haynes, Susanna White, and Benjamin Caron directed the episodes.
