Not everyone was going to make it out of Avengers: Endgame alive and we now know who makes the ultimate sacrifice to stop Thanos.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME AHEAD!
Throughout the course of the film, many characters are killed off. The first is Thanos himself who is taken down relatively early in the film by a team of the Avengers after he is severely weakened after destroying the Infinity Stones. The film then experiences a time jump where things get a bit more complicated.
It a complicated plot that involves time travel, Hawkeye and Black Widow travel to Vormir to retrieve the Soul Stone, resulting in the latter to sacrifice herself so Hawkeye can get the stone and eventually return to his family. In addition, during a climactic battle, the past versions of all of Thanos and his main minions are slain once again.
The big death, of course, is Iron Man himself who, after retrieving the Infinity Stones in a life or death struggle with Thanos, snaps his fingers wiping out his army. The strain of the snap, however, proves too much on Tony Stark and dies soon after. Only fitting that the character who started the Infinity Saga should close it out with one final sacrifice.
