Disney’s 2018 Box Office Is Second Largest In Studio’s History

Black Panther Marvel Disney

If you haven’t noticed by now, Walt Disney Studios has an ironclad grip on the movie-going box office, both domestically and internationally. That doesn’t seem be slowing down anytime soon when the House of Mouse manages to fully ensnare 21st Century Fox, but right now, between the likes of The Incredibles 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Christopher Robin, and other titles, Walt Disney Studios has catapulted to an impressive year at the box office.

So impressive, in fact that it’s stopped the studio’s earnings in 2017 of $6.458 billion. It doesn’t top the studio’s 2016 record of $7.6 billion, but still a very large number that will no doubt go up when you consider the likes of Ralph Breaks the Internet or Mary Poppins Returns, just to name two, hitting theaters later this year.

Solo: A Star Wars Story and A Wrinkle In Time may not have been the box office giants that Disney may have expected, Solo especially, given that it’s a Star Wars film, but those minor missteps didn’t greatly impede Walt Disney Studios’ continued overtaking of the film box office each year.

Though the studio probably isn’t going to catch its 2016 record- the market itself is just far too competitive and there are many more movies out there in multiple formats for consumers- it’s doubtful that any of the higher-ups at the House of Mouse are upset about that. Quite the contrary, as the studio continues to pump out huge film after huge film that make big splashes at the box office, both domestically and internationally.
