Disney CEO Bob Iger believes legendary director Martin Scorsese has never seen a Marvel movie.
Over the past few weeks whilst promoting his forthcoming film The Irishman, director Martin Scorsese has made several comments maligning Marvel films, comparing them to theme-park rides that are only enjoyable in the moments. Some of his colleagues, including iconic filmmakers Francis For Coppola and Pedro Almodovar, have also backed up Martin Scorsese’s comments regarding Marvel films.
Disney CEO Bob Iger fired back a while ago, claiming that Martin Scorsese’s comments on Marvel films are baseless. While promoting his recent memoir, The Ride of a Lifetime, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke to the BBC regarding Martin Scorsese’s Marvel comments. While Disney CEO Bob Iger maintains that Martin Scorsese is a great filmmaker, he did raise up the point that Martin Scorsese himself said that he doesn’t watch the Marvel films.
“Martin Scorsese is a great film-maker. I admire him immensely. He’s made some great films. I would debate him on this subject. First of all, Marvel’s making movies. They’re movies. That’s what Martin Scorsese makes. And they’re good movies.I don’t think he’s ever seen a Marvel film. Anyone who’s seen a Marvel film could not in all truth make that statement.”
These comments Disney CEO Bob Iger made tie back into how Martin Scorsese previously created this entire hoopla with his comments.
“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema,”
This conversation continues to dominate the film industry as both Martin Scorsese and Disney CEO Bob Iger are going on their own respective press tours. When one has something to say, the other seems to flare up as fast as they can. However, as long as Marvel movies are made, there will always be naysayers – with the same principle going for Martin Scorsese’s films.
