Disney Confirms ‘The New Mutants’ Will Still Hit Theaters In 2019

The New Mutants Fox Reshoots

Rumors were spreading The New Mutants could land on a streaming service, but Disney confirmed the film will hit theaters in 2019.

The New Mutants has been in limbo for a while, with multiple release date changes prior to the Disney-Fox merger. The film was planned to have reshoots last year to heighten the horror element, but they have yet to take place. With Disney in control now, rumors pointed to the studio dropping it on Hulu or Disney+. However, HN Entertainment’s Christopher Marc shared on Twitter that Disney is still planning on a theatrical release.

Directed by Josh Boone from a script co-written by Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes.

Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.

The New Mutants is scheduled to hit theaters August 2.
