Disney Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Film Set For Winter 2018 Release

Mulan Disney

Disney is really going full-speed ahead with their new live-action adaptations of some of their classic animated films. And that will now continue with Mulan, now set for a release for November 2, 2018. A worldwide casting search for a Chinese actress to play the iconic heroine has now been announced.

This announcement is coming off the heels of the news that The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau would be taking on a live-action adaptation of The Lion King. After hitting it out of the park with Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Pete’s Dragon, Disney has earned the confidence from audiences in bringing their classics to the screen in live-action form, and now that the wheels are finally in motion for Mulan the exciting possibilities are endless.

It’s also encouraging that Disney will be conducting a global search to find a Chinese actress to portray the iconic heroine. After much prominent discussion about the whitewashing of Asian roles in Hollywood productions, it’s great that this new Mulan film will be a great opportunity to discover a new talent.

What do you guys think of this news? Are you excited to see live-action Mulan movie? Who do you think should direct the project? Or better yet, who will play Mushu? Sound off in the comments below.
