Disney has delayed both its live-action Mulan remake and the long-awaited X-Men film The New Mutants due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus.

Disney’s Mulan and The New Mutants are the latest films to be delayed due to concerns surrounding the Coronavirus, joining the likes of Fast and Furious 9 and A Quiet Place II. Along with several tentpole films being delayed, numerous conventions such as E3, SXSW, WonderCon, and CinemaCon have been canceled as well due to fears regarding the spread of the Coronavirus.

Disney issued a statement Thursday evening that states that the choice to delay Mulan and The New Mutants is in effort to be as cautious as possible.

“As you know this has been a rapidly evolving situation and I wanted to make you aware that we are postponing the releases of ‘Mulan,’ ‘The New Mutants,’ and ‘Antlers’ out of an abundance of caution. We truly believe in the moviegoing experience, and we are looking at new potential 2020 release dates to be announced at a later date.”

At this current junction, no new releases for Disney’s two biggest tentpoles haven’t been released. Mulan was set to his cinemas on March 27, and was tracking a whopping $80 million opening weekend stateside. However, in the last few days, the state of things in North America have radically changed. As for The New Mutants, which had faced numerous delays, was set to hit cinemas on April 3rd. The New Mutants began filming in 2017 and has suffered numerous setbacks, with the Coronavirus being its latest culprit.

Now, all eyes turn to Disney’s Black Widow, which is set to hit cinemas at the end of April. If the Coronavirus calms itself between now and then, it wouldn’t be surprising for the Marvel film to be the first film we all flock to. Only time will tell what’s next for Hollywood amid these concerns regarding the Coronavirus.
