BBC America’s Doctor Who spin-off, Class, has found it’s leading lady. Katherine Kelly, Mr. Selfridge, will be playing the main teacher who is in charge of a number of students.
The cast of students includes; Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah.
Class creator Patrick Ness, opened up about the casting process and why it was decided that Kelly was perfect for this lead role.
“We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we’re aiming for with this show. And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She’s been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager, and Mr. Selfridge, just wait until you see her here.”
Class takes place at Coal Hill School, which is already a part of the Doctor Who universe. The school first appeared back in 1963 and in more modern seasons, Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald was a teacher at the school. It has already been confirmed that Clara will not be appearing in this upcoming spin-off.
Steven Moffat is one of the main voices behind Doctor Who and is looking forward to this dark and very different show. Moffat will also be serving as an executive producer on Class.
“Class is dark and sexy and right now. I’ve always wondered if there could be a British Buffy — it’s taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen.”
