Scott Derrickson Teases ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Script Update

Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill have teased the latest draft of the film’s sequel.

Doctor Strange may have ceased to exist after Thanos collected all Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War, but it’s clear that the creative team behind the Sorcerer Supreme’s first film are hard at work on the sequel. The film’s release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it was assumed that Doctor Strange 2 would be one of the films set for release in 2020 after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With the latter indefinitely postponed, could we maybe see Benedict Cumberatch’s film take on the May 2020 release date?

Plot details surrounding the sequel have been understandably under wraps. It had been previously noted that Derrickson has an affinity for the popular Doctor Strange villain Nightmare, so that could allow the Sinister director to inject a little more horror into the franchise. Furthermore, Doctor Strange’s post-credits scene included Mordo killing of magic users under the pretense that there is too much magic in the world. Of course, Baron Mordo is the Sorcerer Supreme’s arch-rival in the comic books, but it appears that Derrickson is taking his time to make Mordo more of a sympathetic villain much like Loki.
